Abbotsham Archive Group
Calling All Budding Historians and Lovers of Abbotsham’s Past!
The Abbotsham Archive is an informal and enthusiastic group bringing together the rich and fascinating history of our village — and we would love more people to join us.
At present, the Archive draws on two wonderful collections. The first is the extensive material gathered by Mrs Naomi Richardson, now safely lodged at the North Devon Record Office. The second comes from Gill and Philip Marlow, who have been actively collecting photographs, documents, memories, and records for over the past ten years. Much of this treasure has been generously donated by today’s villagers, with even more kindly loaned so it could be copied and preserved for the future.
We are now beginning the exciting task of organising this wealth of material so that Abbotsham’s story can be enjoyed by everyone. A flavour of what has already been collected can be found in the Archive section of this website.
If you are a budding historian, curious about local history, or simply someone who cares about preserving Abbotsham’s heritage for future generations, we would be delighted to hear from you and welcome your help in taking this project forward.
